clair + james

weddings

A Tanglewood Estate Wedding   Man. First. Follow directions. Tanglewood Estate is gorgeous, but kinda nestled away in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula. It's easy to find. Provided you ignore your GPS. Secondly, it's worth the drive. Down a long and winding road that kinda feels straight out of a half decent 70s horror flick. But it's a great place to surround yourself with those you love the most, and celebrate. So that's what Clair and James did. There was a lot that made the day special. Clair's handmade dress. Designed and made by her mum. The history behind the car. Jame's hair. Other things - it was crazy windy, but the cer ...

jane + adam | an old castlemaine gaol wedding

weddings

So, I had to go to gaol for Jane and Adam's wedding. The Old Castlemaine Gaol, to be specific. It's exactly what it sounds like. The old gaol (old enough that you feel wrong using the spelling 'jail'), repurposed. And it is excellent. Don't worry - there'll be pictures. Every time I head out that way for a wedding, I remember just how lovely it is. And then to get to spend a day documenting the union of a couple like Jane and Adam... well, yeah. A day where everybody felt like family. Where there was 100% commitment from every single guest. Commitment to being a part of the ceremony itself, and for sure there was commitment to having a dam ...

bridget & stu | a farm wedding

weddings

Man. What a day. What a crazy, windy, wonderful day. I had no real expectations of what it was going to be like - Bridge and Stu live in London, so we had only spoken on the phone briefly. I knew times and locations, and that there was going to be a LOT of family there, but nothing else. They held their wedding out at Bridget's nan's farm. Used it as a reason to get the whole, far flung and far out clan together for a day. They spent two days scrubbing out the shearing shed, before they could even think about making it look pretty. They put up a marquee for the oldies and the kids. And then they got married. To the strains of the Sta ...

mary + jono | laurens hall wedding

weddings

Don't tell, but Laurens Hall may be my most favourite venue. Basically, it's a timber mill. That's it. The rest is up to you. It's an amazing space. Provided you and your guests can fill it with laughter. Some tears. Crazy dancing. Much love. Mary and Jono's wedding did. In spades. I knew it was going to be fun when they mentioned that they were having a first look at a pub. Followed by pizza. Tequila. And champagne. So yeah. Meet Mary and Jono.

kirsten & ed

portfolio

So, this is how I started 2016. Kirsten & Ed got married. They wanted to keep everything local, but fun. Relaxed, yet meaningful. The held their ceremony under a tree at Royal Park, then ducked over to the Melbourne Zoo for the reception. We probably could have grabbed some more portraits, but drinking champagne and hanging out was more important to them. I get that. And when two people are so clearly into each other, and enjoying their day, a portrait can be made out of every stolen glance and smile. Kirsten & Ed's wedding felt like a celebration. Of love. Of laughter. Friendship. Shared memories. Kirsten's speech was... rem ...

bridget & tim

weddings

I took a lot away from Bridget & Tim's wedding. I learnt that no matter the weather, a good time could be had by all. I learnt that a beautiful bride that refuses to take herself seriously made for a brilliant portrait session. It re-affirmed my notion that Jonny Von Goes - JVG - is clearly one of Melbourne's most involving and stimulating celebrants, no matter the weather. I found out that a red and blue are a fantastic colour combo. I already knew that it wasn't the size of the wedding, but the appetite for fun that makes a difference - but Bridget and Tim's reception, at the Collingwood Children's Farm, was a wonderful affirmation. Tea ...
