MEG & DAN | STILLWATER AT CRITTENDEN WEDDING
Meg and Dan held their wedding at Stillwater At Crittenden, in Red Hill. I love shooting out that way – it’s a simply beautiful part of Victoria. And we sure knew we were in Victoria, as the weather threw everything possible at us. In the space of thirty minutes.
They were utterly relaxed about the day. Meg and Dan got ready together, along with their closest friends. They managed to stay apart long enough to enjoy a first look – which is something I thoroughly recommend if you prefer to shoot some portraits before the ceremony. They then drove themselves to Stillwater so they could get hitched and party. It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. Until… it all changed about thirty minutes before their decidedly outdoor ceremony got underway. The wind picked up, causing massive chaos for their friends who were valiantly trying to keep the (literally) hundreds of hand folded paper cranes from tangling. The sky grew darker and more ominous by the moment. What to do?
Plough ahead and get married, obviously. So they did. The heavens did open, scant moments into the ceremony. Umbrellas were deployed. everyone huddled together. I kept shooting, muttering a silent prayer to the gods of Canon weatherproofing. And as the ceremony drew to a close, the rain abated and the sun broke through with the kind of epic light you expect in a Cecil B DeMille extravaganza. It was one hell of a ceremony. The rest was easy. Drink. Dance. Eat. Enjoy.
